Dan, our ferocious black labrador retriever, is spoiled rotten. Nah, just kidding, he would lick you all day if he could. Dan was given to us by my dad for a birthday present. His first journey to our home was in the lap of his "mother", Kalai, and he has been "glued" to her ever since.

See Dan Retrieve!

Spoiled Dan!

Dan sleeps alot!

For a lab, Dan has many expected traits and some unexpected, strange traits.

Some of his expected traits include being a loving dog no matter what circumstances arise, being happy all the time, being large (about 70 pounds) and loving to retrieve things (if he believes the effort is worth the trip). He does not mind the cold weather if it seems interesting. For example, last Christmas it snowed for the first time in something like 25 years. It did not even phase him. As the matter of fact, he loved it, playing and dancing in the snow and retrieving like there was no tomorrow. But, that was in the snow, his standard position on cold weather is to act like he is freezing to death, even when temperatures are only in the mid-50's, to try and get someone to let him inside.

Some of his unexpected traits include being scared of swimming and no real desire to chase birds. He does like to watch birds eat his dogfood though. Quite an irony, I believe.

Dan is still being his typical self. I can control him fairly well but Kalai is still struggling.

It will be nice to get some cool weather sometime and he will definitely feel better.

We took him to Surfside Beach recently and he loved the surf but he is still not too fond of lake or pond water, figure that one out. Maybe he just like to play with the waves.

Well, Dan has taken up one of his favorite summer activities again this summer despite our best efforts to prevent it. This occupation is hole digging, of course. We have tried supplying him with cover tarps, constantly cool water in his tub, ice in his drinking bowl as well as several other things. As the matter of fact, the same day we bought him the cover tarp so that he would have plenty of shade, we found him laying in one of his holes that he had just dug to twice its previous depth!
